Swimming WA Board

President - Jeanette Bailey

Jeanette brings a wealth of experience to her role as Swimming WA President as a former coach, referee and committee member. Jeanette’s extensive swimming background combined with her knowledge of the sport makes her one of the most valued and respected members on the Swimming WA Board. Jeanette’s professional skills in administration and management have provided Swimming WA with a sound approach to considering all issues related to swimming in Western Australia.

 

Vice President - Jeff Williams

Courtesy of his two sons, Jeff has been heavily involved in the swimming community since 1990, first in NSW and now here in Western Australia. Jeff has assisted his local club as a volunteer and referee  and has also contributed to the club’s committee as both Vice President and President.  Jeff strives to contribute positively to the governance, planning and policies here at Swimming WA and continues to focus on providing strategic direction and development for the association.

 

Board Member - Richard Corkill

Rick has been Police officer for 33 years, presently holding the Commissioned rank of Inspector. In that time, Rick has developed strong analytical and conceptual skills with an ability to translate analysis into action within the business environment of Swimming WA. Rick is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with a strong focus on corporate governance. Rick has experience in Emergency Management, Business Continuity Planning, Risk Management and is certified in Project Management. Rick has been an active volunteer for Swimming WA for 14 years and as a member of the Board of Directors at Swimming WA, makes a valuable contribution to the association’s strategy, purpose and direction.

 

Board Member - Luigi D'Orsogna

"Luigi is one of WA’s leading cardiologists, currently acting as a visiting consultant to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and King Edward Memorial Hospital, as well as his private practice at Western Cardiology. Luigi’s reputation as one of WA’s leading paediatric and fetal cardiologist is coupled with his experience as a public speaker and contributor to medical publications. A passion for Swimming clearly runs in the D’Orsogna family, with Luigi’s son Tommaso currently one of WA’s elite swimmers and a relay bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympic Games."

 

Board Member - Dorothy Harris

Dorothy, affectionately known at Dot, has been involved in our sport for more than 20 years, has officiated at an international level and is currently the South West Region Coordinator.

 

Board Member - Jim Piper

Jim has swum at an Olympic and Commonwealth Games level, and is currently an accountant with FMG. A life long swimmer and one of WA's most successful competitors, Jim brings a unique skill set to the Swimming WA Board with a strong understanding of the sport from at all levels.

 

Board Member – Louis van Aardt
 
Louis is a solicitor and has been specialising in corporate and commercial law for nearly 15 years.  He is admitted to practice in England & Wales, WA and NSW and currently holds the position of Special Counsel at Talbot Olivier Lawyers, in Perth.  Louis is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a regular public speaker to industry professionals in Australia on certain key areas of corporate law and practice.  His legal experience and ability to give clear and sound advice at all levels will benefit and further strengthen the board of Swimming WA.

 

Swimming Australia Board Member - Tom Picton Warlow

Based in WA, Tom brings to Swimming Australia over twenty years of business and professional experience in a range of areas including investment banking, oil and gas and mining. Tom’s wealth of experience includes previous employment with Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, BankWest, Woodside and Westpac, and brings this experience to the board of Swimming WA. Tom has a strong history of involvement in the sport of swimming - particularly as an open water swimmer, with ten years of participation in the Rottnest Channel Swim.

 

Open Water Committee

Principle: A well planned and innovative Open Water Swimming (OWS) competition structure will deliver relevant and timely OWS events in acknowledgement of a developing and varied opportunities to meet the needs of SWA, affiliated Clubs and swimming individuals for competitive swimming external of still water venues that will contribute to a capable and diverse swimming team in WA.

Technical Committee

Principle: A person, who performs the role of a Technical Official, in whatever capacity, will encourage and acknowledge the contributions of all other Swimming WA officials and promote a positive environment of collegiate effort in interpreting and delivering international and national rules of the Sport of Swimming.

Finance and Governance Committee

Principle: The current and ongoing reassessment by the Board, as the custodians of a premier sporting organisation, to measure its relevance and performance in a changing environment requires the Board to grasp and appreciate it has an obligation to heed the signs of change. This requires that the sport of competitive swimming remains relevant and appropriately prepared and positioned for any future direction. It is recognition that external stakeholders have adopted new philosophies on governance, risk and operations for an organisation.

Competition Planning and Review Committee

Principle: To recognise and promote the outstanding achievements of our member’s participation and service to the sport of swimming in Western Australia (WA). It is an illustrious group of SWA’s most respected and celebrated champions that span time, and achievement. They are the best of the best, who through their achievements have made an enduring or significant contribution to the sport of swimming, inspiring young and old alike. SWA will seek to acknowledge, promote and preserve the contribution of these individuals’ by extending to them an appropriate honour in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Swimming in WA.
