Coaches Appointed for Performance Pathway Tours 2022/23

08 November 2022

Swimming WA, in partnership with Swimming Australia and WAIS, deliver the Performance Pathway Program with the aim of preparing identified athletes to successfully transition to the “Dolphins Swim Team”.

A key deliverable of the program is the provision of competition opportunities. Coaches are a fundamental delivery partner of the Performance Pathway Program and provide assistance to touring Performance Pathway Program teams.

Congratulations to the following coaches appointed for upcoming Performance Pathway Tours:

Flippers Squad Tour to Singapore

Lead Coach – Harry Clark (Breakers WA)

Technical Lead – Mel Tantrum (Swimming Australia)

Scholarship Coach – Will Greenwood (Westside Christ Church Aquatic)

Performance Pathway Tour to South Australia

Lead Coach – Rob Palfery (UWA West Coast)

Assistant Coach – Ryan Steenkamp (Highlanders)

Assistant Coach – Sarah Scott (South Lake Dolphins)

Scholarship Coach – Eliza Stewart (Southside Penhros Wesley)

The upcoming tour to Singapore will be Harry’s first role as Lead Coach, following recent international experience supporting the Australian team at Junior Pan Pacs in Hawaii. With experienced Mel Tantrum playing a support role, athletes will have plenty of experience to lean on during their tour later in November.

Similarly, the upcoming tour to South Australia will be Rob’s first role as Lead Coach, following multiple experiences supporting both domestic and international teams. South Australia will be the first WA travelling role for both Sarah and Ryan, following vast experiences at National level both as an athlete and coach to National finalists.

The upcoming tours will be piloting scholarship coach roles, offered to two outstanding applicants. Both Eliza and Will have experience coaching at national level, with Will having multiple national age finalists in his squad. The roles will be providing preparatory and on ground assistance to lead coaches, in addition to immersing themselves in what it takes to deliver a successful domestic or international tour.

Swimming WA is proud to have this cohort of coaches supporting the Performance Pathway Program with more opportunities to be made available through 2023 and 2024.
