Speedo has today announced Australian swimming stars Alicia Coutts and Christian Sprenger as their newest brand ambassadors. Both contracts will see the Olympic medallists compete in Speedo swimwear until 2014.

This sponsorship announcement closely follows Alicia and Christian’s phenomenal results at the London Olympics Games. As part of Speedo’s long-standing partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee both Alicia and Christian wore Speedo swimwear throughout the London Games as they swam their way to medal triumphs. Both swimmers have now become the latest members of the Australian Swimming Team to secure individual agreements with the world’s leading swimwear brand - Speedo.

Coutts brought home an incredible five medals; Gold in the Women’s 4×100m Freestyle Relay, Silver in the 200m Individual Medley, Bronze in the 100m Butterfly; and Silver in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay and 4x100m Medley Relay.

The 24-year-old’s impressive haul has made her one of only three Australians to achieve such a feat at a single Games – putting her in the company of Ian Thorpe and Shane Gould.

Coutts’s feats followed outstanding performances at the 2011 World Championships where she won two Silver medals and one Bronze.

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games Coutts departed as Australia’s most successful individual performer with five Gold medals. Alicia has emerged as a world force in swimming and Speedo has signed on as the first of Alicia’s personal sponsors.

Alicia Coutts says,

“It’s great to become part of the Speedo family”, Alicia said.

“I have always competed in Speedo and look forward to working with them over the next 2 years and beyond”.

Sprenger’s first Olympic medal, when he touched for Silver in the 100m Breaststroke 0.47 seconds behind Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa who broke the event’s world record by 0.12 of a second, was one of the most memorable moments at the London Games. Days later he topped off his Olympic experience taking home Bronze as part of the 4 x 100m Men’s Medley Relay Team.

Sprenger has proven time and time again he is one of the fastest breastrokers in the world.

Bursting into the Australian Swim Team in 2006, Christian has since taken home Silver in the 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

He set a world record in the 200m Breaststroke semi-final at the 2009 World Championships.

At the age of 27, Christian is determined to have continued success in the water and has set his sights on the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Christian Sprenger says,

“I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity to become a member of the Speedo team. I look forward to the design and innovation that I’ll be wearing when I compete against the world.”

Brooke Nicholson, Speedo Marketing Manager, says;

“Both Alicia and Christian embody the Speedo spirit. Not only have they proven themselves on swimming’s world stage, they are both well respected and senior members of the Australian swimming team the younger swimmers look up to.

“Speedo is about inspiring people to swim and both Alicia and Christian are the perfect role models to recruit people back into the pool”.

This announcement follows the signing of 18-year-old swim star Brittany Elmslie in October.
