Following on from an outstanding performance at the 2012 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships, 5km and 10km gold medallist Brett Fielding has been selected to attend the inaugural 2012 Trans-Tasman OWS Camp held in Sydney from 30th November – 6th December.

A new initiative developed by Swimming Australia, the camp aims to provide select swimmers with greater exposure, and the opportunity to develop vital open water swimming skills through both competition and a specific training camp.

Perth City’s Fielding is one of only eight swimmers Australia-wide to be identified as a developing open water elitist. Australian Open Water head coach Greg Towle will coach the squad as they compete at the NSW Open Water Swimming State Championships at Penrith on the 1st and 2nd of December, before embarking on a grueling three day training camp with Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.

Fielding believes the camp will be a great introduction into international competition.

“This is an opportunity to compete in a high class field. It is the next step in my open water experience”, says Fielding.

“I hope to have a new learning experience and get ideas on how to better perform in future open water events”.

Fielding will utilize his time on the Trans-Tasman OWS Camp to build momentum and continue his campaign towards the 2013 Australian Open Water Championships in Lake Macquarie, NSW.
