Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer Wayne Swan and Minister for Sport Kate Lundy today joined Australian legend Laurie Lawrence to highlight the importance of water safety for children during the summer months.
The Gillard Government is a proud supporter of the Kids Alive - Do the Five! program and has provided close to $1 million to the Laurie Lawrence Foundation to promote and distribute the Living With Water DVD which promotes water safety for children aged under five.
The DVD is distributed around Australia to new parents, water safety bodies and local governments. To date, more than 1.5 million DVDs have been produced.
In the 2012-13 Budget the Gillard Government announced it would continue to provide funding for the Kids Alive – Do the Five! program.
The Gillard Government has also announced it will fund other water safety initiatives driven by Mr Lawrence in pre-schools and child care centre including stories, songs and videos designed to promote water safety messages to children and their parents.
Mr Swan and Senator Lundy joined Mr Lawrence in highlighting that as we enter the summer months it is extremely important for parents to remember Kids Alive – Do the Five!
