Foundations of Officiating workshop provides participants with the knowledge and skills to confidently participate as a trainee at meets. The workshop further explores the Swimming WA online modules, outlined below, to assist trainees to put their skills and knowledge into practice:
- Judge of Stroke
- Inspector of Turns and;
- Starter.
This workshop is for volunteers, parents and teachers who are interested in officiating at any level of meet (club to national levels). Anyone aged 14 years and over can attend but please be aware qualifications can only be awarded to those over 16 years old.

Pre requisites: Community Officiating General Principles online course and Working with Children Check
Next Steps
Upon completion of the workshop, participants are required to become members of Swimming WA as a Technical Official (contact your Registrar to organise this). Once a member you are required to attend meets for practical experience with a mentor/assessor.
We highly recommend you attend the Country Pennants Meet (country participants) or the League Championships meet to start your practical requirements. Please email officials@wa.swimming.org.au after registering for this workshop to confirm your attendance at this event so we can arrange a mentor for you on the day.
Please note you must be signed off by an assessor before you are able to Officiate a meet in a position. Find out more>
