Swimming WA is pleased to announce the 2020 Westpac Swimmer of the Year Awards will go ahead, albeit in a different format. Our sport needs to recognise the great achievements of our Swimmers, Coaches, Clubs and Volunteers over the past season. Swimming WA hopes the Awards can provide some familiarity and reassurance despite the ever-evolving turbulence of the COVID-19 Pandemic. This year will see the first-ever Virtual Westpac Swimmer of the Year Awards as we endeavour to embrace the changing climate.
COVID-19 forced a premature finish to a promising season with many Swimming WA members feeling empty after months of hard work gone unrewarded. There is no doubt that this hiatus for our sport will provide Swimmers, Coaches, and Clubs with an opportunity to grow and develop strategies to ensure they come back stronger and faster.
The 2020 Westpac Swimmer of the Year Awards will be announced via Swimming WA’s social media platforms and website (https://wa.swimming.org.au/), beginning Monday 11 May and culminating with the announcement of the Lyn McClements Swimmer of the Year Medal at 6pm, Friday 15 May 2020.
2019/20 saw huge performances from Ben Popham, Brianna Throssell and Jeremy McClure, all racing on the world stage. The introduction of the International Swimming League was immensely popular across the world allowing swimming to be viewed as a professional sport. Additionally, Western Australia saw success in a range of areas including Membership growth, Club development and another fantastic summer of Open Water Swimming.
Join with us, as we celebrate the year that was at the 2020 Westpac Swimmer of the Year Awards via the Swimming WA Website and Socials.
