2020/21 Swimming WA Calendar Announced

25 August 2020

Swimming WA is delighted to announce the release of the Event Calendar and Summer Almanac for the 2020/21 Season. Despite the uncertainty of COVID-19, in collaboration with key stakeholders and volunteer Committees, Swimming WA staff have worked hard over several months to plan events for the 2020/21 SunSmart Long Course season and SWA OWS Series.

The highlight of the season will undoubtedly be the 2020 Hancock Prospecting State Age and Open Swimming Championships which is set to run from 18 – 22 December. The decision has been made to combine the Age and Open Championships to create an exhilarating atmosphere in an effort to replicate the excitement of the National Championships.

Much like previous years, Australia’s biggest Open Water Series will run from October to March with a total of 11 rounds, providing an opportunity for all Swimmers to get involved in our wonderful sport. Round 1 starts in Karratha (Hearson Cove) on October 3rd

Swimming WA President Mr. Louis van Aardt said;

“Western Australia is so lucky to be able to work toward a fully-fledged summer swimming programme, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. Throughout the Short Course season the Swimming WA team have been working with our Clubs, Coaches Officials and Membership, to assist them to get Clubs back up and running and now we are planning for a summer to remember.

On behalf of the Association, I want to thank our Regional Committees and Clubs for the wonderful work you are doing to get swimming back up on its feet. We made a commitment during COVID-19 to be a ‘kinder, gentler sport’ that has its focus on providing wonderful opportunities for our swimmers and their families. This calendar of events demonstrates that focus and through the winter, many of our Members have embraced that spirit of positive delivering a swimming experience. This is a message you will hear about often over the coming summer as Swimming WA continues to lead the nation in swimming development” he said.

With the postponement of Tokyo 2020, the Swimming WA Calendar will provide an integral part of our Olympic hopeful’s preparations, with the likes of Brianna Throssell (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Palfery, WAIS), Ashton Brinkworth (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Palfery, WAIS), and Nicholas Rollo (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) all chasing the #roadtotokyo.

With all this excitement ahead of us, we can’t wait to see you on Pool deck.
