2021 SunSmart Club Premierships

28 February 2021

The 2021 SunSmart Club Premierships took place this weekend at HBF Stadium, with A through D divisions being contested.

The weekend saw 26 metropolitan Clubs take to the water, competing for their Club in the annual competition and although the world is a very different place from what it was last February, there has been one constant, that is UWA-West Coast remains the A Division Champions.

UWA-West Coast claimed the title yet again, totalling an impressive 476 points to hold off the fast-finishing Westside Christchurch (412.5 points). UWA-West Coast flaunted their depth of talent particularly in the Open category where they won all events except the Women’s 100m Breaststroke (Talara Jade-Dixon, 1:10.00, St Hilda’s, c: Deb Jones).

The win continues the UWA-West Coast dynasty as they have won the previous nine A Grade Club Premierships, a feat that has never been achieved in Swimming WA history.

In B Division it was Rockingham taking care of business after being relegated from A Grade in 2020. Rockingham was dominant throughout the Meet and finishing with 361 points, almost 60 points ahead of second.

Whilst the win was clear, the rest of the competition was extremely tight, with just eight points separating 2nd to 5th. In the end, it was Perth City claiming second and moving back to A Grade on the back of some impressive relay performances.

This year saw a format change with C & D divisions, as they combined to make one Meet. A new format implemented to encourage participation and overall enjoyment, which was a great success.

It was Kwinana storming to victory with 395 points, ahead of Fremantle Port in 300 points. Both Kwinana and Fremantle will be promoted to B Grade, and with both Clubs continuing to develop and grow deeper, the 2022 edition is set to be a great battle.

In D Grade, it was Claremont Aquatic dominating the field in their first time competing at the Club Premierships. With Claremont swimmers winning races across all age groups, it appears they will be a Club to watch for years to come.

Swimming WA would like to congratulate all Clubs and Athletes who were apart of the 2021 SunSmart Club Premierships. It was a fantastic demonstration of the depth within Western Australia, once again showing the bright future ahead of Swimming in WA.

As always, Swimming WA would like to thank our wonderful Technical Officials who worked tirelessly throughout the Meet to provide a safe and fair field for competition.
