01 March 2020

The 2020 SunSmart Club Premierships took place this weekend at HBF Stadium. In what was an exhibition of swimming clubs from all over Perth converged on the states premier aquatic centre for the battle of club supremacy.

Kicking off the festival of swimming was A Division on Friday Evening. The top 8 clubs from last years standings took to the water to battle for points in 60 different events. The first of which was the Men’s 100m Freestyle, where Jackson Govers (St Hilda’s, c: Deb Jones) brought the house down as he stormed to victory. However, UWA-West Coast was the runaway winners once again finishing more than 100 points ahead of St Hilda’s in second place.

Saturday, 29 February saw B Division converge on HBF Stadium as teams competed to not only win the Premiership but also have an opportunity to move into A Division for 2021. It was an incredibly tight battle between the top teams as Westside Christchurch, Tuart Hill, Perth City and South Lake Dolphins we’re trying to edge each other out. The eventual winners were Westside Christchurch who will be joined by Tuart Hill in A Division in 2021.

C Division was the next off the rank with 6 clubs set to race for supremacy. It was an incredibly tight battle for first and second as Central Aquatic and Western Sprint went head to head. Thanks to a stellar performances from Harrison Farmer (Central Aquatic, c: Wayne de Lacy), the team from Bayswater won C Division and will compete in B Division in 2021.

D Division was the final meet of the 2020 SunSmart Club Premierships and was a fantastic way to cap off another stellar championships. Fremantle Port proved too strong for the rest of the competition as they scored a whopping 408 points.
