Former SWA Manager Natalie Woolfitt nails 10km at OWS Sorrento

15 January 2025

Former Swimming WA Commercial and Event Manager Natalie Woolfitt had a fantastic win at Round 6 of the Open Water Swimming (OWS) Series at Sorrento Beach, proudly supported by the City of Joondalup.

With 776 registered swimmers at the event, Woolfitt finished as the first female in the 10km event, clocking a time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 23.5 seconds.

"I’m pretty tired right now, to be honest," she said after the race. "Once the winds died down, laps 4 to 6 were beautiful. Overall, it was a great swim."

"This is my first 10km in six years, so I was just hoping to finish. I’m really not that well-prepared, but I’m glad I finished. I had no idea where I stood during the race, so I was really surprised."

Her son, little Oscar, was there holding her hand as she crossed the finish line.

In the 1.25km race, Breakers training partners Sheldon Williams and Owen Wright went head-to-head in a tight battle. Williams just edged out Wright by 0.51 seconds. “I usually win... it was a good race,” said Williams. “I thought he might win, but it’s always me.”

Wright, ever the competitor, said, “I usually beat him every time.” Sheldon Williams explained, “It was hard to see the buoy, but I stayed behind Owen, then passed him at the end.”

Williams will be back in the 1.25km at the Community Swim in Busselton, and both he and Wright are gearing up for the 2025 Australian Open Water Championships, where they’ll compete together in the relays for Breakers.
