Inaugural Yara Burrup Classic Open Water Swim Drawing A Crowd!

08 May 2019

The Yara Burrup Classic is now only 3 days away and the local community are getting right behind this exciting open water swim. The Pilbara will host the inaugural Yara Burrup Classic on Saturday 11th of May 2019. Swimming WA encourage all Western Australians to Come Swim with Us in the warm waters of Hearson’s Cove with their families and join us for a barbeque afterwards as we present the prizes and awards.

The Yara Burrup Classic is proudly presented by Yara Pilbara Fertilisers and supported by The Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries, Nichol Bay Water Recycling, Pilbara Ports Authority and Sadleirs.

Distances available include a 100m, 250m, 600m and the 1.8km classic, so all fitness levels and abilities will be catered for. On the day, registrations will open at 12:30pm and close at 1:15pm sharp.  The first swimmers will be sent off at 2:00pm, with the main 1.8km Classic event beginning at 2:35pm.

Swimming WA’s Chief Executive Officer Darren Beazley said;

“We are extremely excited to be able to bring an Open Water Swim to the Pilbara, which has been made possible by the generous support from sponsors like Yara, local volunteers and the tireless behind the scenes efforts from Swimming WA’s Northern Regional Coordinator, Robyn Minogue and her dedicated event committee volunteers.  We look forward to the event’s success and it becoming an annual date on the Open Water Swimming calendar.”
