Message from the President - September

02 September 2019

As our Members will be aware, the Bunbury Swimming Club Club Rooms suffered significant fire damage in early May. The Club sought financial support from the Bunbury community and Swimming WA was quick to add our support. I drove to Bunbury on Friday night to visit the revamped Club Rooms at Bunbury Swimming Club which are very impressive. I also attended the Medal Presentations and saw some of the local swimmers in action on a Club night. My thanks to the Club for the invitation to be part of such a special occasion.

The Club Committee, led ably by President Kylie Cattaway, and with the help of the local community, have done a magnificent job repainting the rooms and replacing some of the kitchen equipment and appliances together with air conditioning, etc. Swimming WA felt that this was a situation where the Club needed support of the Association. It is times like these when we need to step up and as President, I presented a cheque for $5,000 toward the Club refurbishments. The Bunbury President, Kylie Cattaway, was delighted and said:

“The Club claimed insurance, but still had an excess which would have been a real financial burden on the Club as we lead into the Long Course Season. To have the support of Swimming WA to make sure there wasn’t any shortfall was greatly appreciated. I’d like to thank Louis van Aardt for coming down for our night, and thank the Association for their continued support of regional swimming.”

I am very much looking forward to this weekend’s SWA State Short Course Championships at HBF Stadium, and look forward to seeking you over the weekend.

Best wishes,

Louis van Aardt

President
