OWS All Stars

03 March 2020

Scarborough Beach hosted the inaugural ‘Open Water All-Stars’ event. 20 elite athletes from Swimming, Surf Life Saving and Triathlon took part in a 1.25km open water swim.

Within the group saw WA triathlon royalty with;

  • Guy Crawford - Professional Triathlete, 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 Taiwan Champion
  • Kate Bevilaqua  - Professional Triathlete, multiple IRONMAN and 70.3 IRONMAN wins, as well as the 2016 ULTRAMAN World Champion.
  • Matt Burton - Professional Triathlete, the first WA athlete to go sub 8 hours for an IRONMAN. Currently training for the 2020 IRONMAN World Championships in October

All lining up to uphold the impeccable swimming reputation of their sport.

Not to leave out Ben King, former professional cyclist and Jonney Sammut, an elite junior triathlete with a huge future in the sport.

Surf Life Saving WA athletes were a tight group of elite surf athletes, and very keen to take on the swimmers in the open water, finishing 1st and 3rd they made it clear they were here to win!

A beach start gave the triathlon and surf athletes a flying start over the swimmers. A lead pack formed early on with Jack Wilson, brothers Harry and Charlie Hewitt and Guy Crawford hanging on for dear life.

A team race format, with the result based around the strength and speed of the entire 5 athletes, only 2 points separated the Swimming WA and Surf Lifesaving WA teams, with Swimming WA taking line honours, and bragging rights.
