Reder Rewrites Record Books on Day 3

20 December 2020

Tegan Reder (UWA-West Coast, c: Robert Palfery) has re-written the Record books on Day 3 of the 2020 Hancock Prospecting Western Australian Swimming Championships claiming three Gold medals in the process.

Reder started the day with the Women’s 100m Breaststroke Multi-Class where she swam valiantly to touch in 1:38.24, dropping 1.52 seconds off her personal best. The time unofficially breaks the Australian Record for the S11 category as well as ranking her 4th in the World for 2020.

Reder went on to continue her fine form, claiming Gold in the Women’s 100m Freestyle Multi-Class and 50m Breaststroke Multi-Class, both in record times. Reder’s impressive form saw her take the S11 Australian Record in the 50m Breaststroke and the S11 Australian Age Record in the 100m Freestyle, boosting her hopes for an Olympic debut in 2021.

Continuing the record-breaking theme, it was Talara-Jade Dixon (St Hilda’s, c: Deb Jones) dominating the Women’s 100m Breaststroke. Following a fast heat swim which saw Dixon finish in 1:11.40, the St Hilda’s representative continued her breaststroke dominance claiming Gold in 1:10.08. A new personal best spurred Dixon to break the WA Residential Record, previously held by Olympian, Sally Hunter from 2004.

In the Girl’s 16 Year’s 100m Butterfly is was Kate Harrison (Westside Christchurch, c: Jon Harrison) dazzling the crowd as she cruised to victory in 59.89. Harrison was out incredibly fast, turning in 27.83 before finishing and breaking the 16 years WA Residential Record. The swim is Harrison’s first sub-60 performance and makes waves across the country, placing her as the second 16-year-old in the country this season.

On the Men’s side, it was a showdown as the sprint and distance kings, collided in a 400m battle. The Open final saw Adam Sudlow (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Shaw) lead the field through the first 200m at 1:56.37 before his teammate Hugh Moran (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Shaw) took control. Moran, however, didn’t have it his way as the 10km Open Water State Champ Kyle Lee (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) Kieren Pollard (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) stormed home. Moran managed to hold on, claiming Gold in 3:57.69, ahead of Pollard in 3:57.74 and Lee in 3:57.78, in what was one of the races of the Championships.

Attention now turns to Day 4 of the Championships with the 50m Freestyle, 200m IM, 200m Butterfly and 1500m Freestyle all left to race. You can watch all the action via SwimTV, visit the Swimming WA website for more information.
