Strong swims on day one of SWA Short Course Qual Meet 1

The action was underway 9am sharp at HBF Stadium for day one of the Swimming WA Short Course Qualifying Meet #1. 372 Swimmers turned up ready to put in some huge performances and lock in those State Qualifying Times!

There was a massive amount of personal best today, some of the biggest performances are as follows;

In the Girls 9-12 200m Backstroke Sahmara Kirby (WCA, 12) knocked 16.69 seconds off her PB, finishing in a time of 2:41.30. While Reese Hancock (SLD, 12) registered a massive 19.75 second PB touching in a time of 2:57.27

In the same event for the Boys, 11-year-old Callum McCourt (AST) touched first in 2:47.95 (-10.00). 10-year-olds Tristan van Waas (ROC) and Nicholas Kryachok (TUA) has great swimming, registering PB’s of 11.65 and 15.88 seconds.

The 9-12 100m IM events followed with a majority of the swimmers registering their first official times in the event. In the girl's event, we had 3 huge personal bests, Kaitlyn Brown (TUA, 11) (-13.91), Tyler-Ann Knowles (VPS, 9) (-16.16) and Gabrielle Manalo (THN, 10) (-15.71). Well done girls!

The boys 100 IM saw Adrian Frederic (SLD, 12) knock another 3.48 seconds off an already impressive time finishing in 1:09.71. Breakers 11-year-old Sam Carmignani came out firing, registering a 17.41 second PB to finish in 1:23.78.

Southlake Dolphins coaches must have been focusing hard on the butterfly over the break, with Kaci Curtis (10) producing an astonishing 24.44 second PB in the Girls 9-12 100m Butterfly, touching the wall in 1:26.11, and Owen Hewitt (12) knocking 15.21 seconds off his previous time in the Boys event – finishing second overall in 1:19.20.

Charlie Harnett, (TUA, 12) clocked a 25.19 second PB in the Girls 200m Freestyle (2:40.76), Sienna Dolphin-Spencer (BRW, 11) also has a large PB (-24.64) touching in 2:36.30. Owen Hewitt (SLD, 12) backed up his butterfly performance to knock 5.42 seconds off his 200m Freestyle time in the Boys event, finishing with the fastest time in the event. Christopher Nathan (SSPW, 11) must have been working hard this offseason, clearing his previous best time by 10.05 seconds (2:38.18) Well done!

Event 15 was the beginning of the 13/Over events for the day, it began with the Women’s 100m Freestyle. Maddison Stolp (BUS, 15) reduced her personal best by 5.12 seconds (1:33.67) in a great swim. While in event 16 the Men’s 200m Freestyle Thomas Michael (WCA, 14) finished in 2:02.11 (-6.85) and Owen Cattaway (BUN, 15) in 2:10.42 (-6.66).

Abigail Phillips (BRW, 15), Lily Beste (ROC, 16) and Jasmine Mueller (AST, 15) all registered personal bests in the Women's 100m Backstroke. Finishing in times of 1:09.61, 1:08.09 and 1:07.08 respectively.

Southside Penrhos Wesley duo Joshua Agnihotri (15) and Jett Walker (16) swam 12.16 and 7.15 second personal bests in the 100m Butterfly, hitting the wall in 1:06.99 and 1:00.55.

In the Women’s 200m Butterfly Madison Howe (PERC, 18) swam an incredible 12.50 second PB, finishing fastest overall in a time of 2:16.26, well done Madison.

There were a number of personal bests in the Women's 400m Freestyle, of few of which were swum by Keala Crawley (BRW, 13) (-9.03), Kate Wallington (SLD, 13) (-8.07), Maddison Johnston-Walker (BUS, 16) (-7.87), Annie Wilson (BRW, 13) (-6.60) and Brianna Voigt (UWSC, 14) ( -23.71). Well done girls!

Abigail Phillips (BRW, 15) continued her good form in the 200m Breaststroke, clocking a 5.26 second PB to secure the third fastest time in the 13/over category (2:51.68).

In the Men's 200m Backstroke, Dylan Groves (SLD, 13) and Tom Anderson (BRW, 14) both showed their hard work has paid off in the off season, registering 13.57 and 11.19 second PB’s. (2:27.00 and 2:27.33)

Well done to Ethan O’Sullivan (ROC, 14) for beating his previous 1500m Freestyle time by 1:22.30, a huge improvement (18:05.93)
