2019 Asia-Pac Super Splash – Day 2 Summary.

15 December 2019

HBF Stadium was alight today as the weather wasn’t the only thing bringing the heat. Swimmers from around Australia and Asia were in action in the second day of the 2019 Asia-Pac Super Splash, as spectators were able to see a glimpse of what looks to be a very promising future of Asian and Australian Swimming.

Following the success of Day 1, swimmers, coaches and spectators met at HBF Stadium for another day full of opportunity. Some of the highlights included;

Boys 13/14-Year-Old 200m Individual Medley –

Tianyu Xing (Asia) had an incredible performance in the Boys 200m Individual Medley as he stormed to victory in a time of 2:17.25. Xing’s performance saw him finish over 10 seconds ahead of second-place as well as beating all age groups. An incredible achievement at only 14 years of age.

Men’s 100m Butterfly –

The Men’s 100m Butterfly proved to be one of the best races of the entire event as South Side Penrhos Wesley locals Ethan Bradley (Aussie), Matthew Vandenberg (Aussie), Christopher Purcell (Aussie), and Harrison Hynes (Aussie) went head to head. Bradley proved too strong after exploding off the blocks and dominating the first 50m. Bradley touched home in 57.60 ahead of Vandenberg and Purcell.

Girls 9/10-Year-Old 50m Breaststroke –

The youngest age group competing in this weekend’s event once again provided endless amounts of excitement, as the 9/10-year-old’s girls 50m Breaststroke saw Cai Ni Joo (Asia) and Sienna Pitt (Aussie) go toe to toe for their Continent. Ni Joo was able to take the victory in this outing, touching in 40.83 ahead of Pitt in 41.80.

Girls 11/12-year-old 100m Freestyle -

Team Aussie managed to flex their muscles in the Girls 11/12-year-old 100m Freestyle as they entirely swept the podium. Led by Bridgette Brodalka (Aussie) who stormed to victory in 1:03.37, Kaci Curtis (Aussie) and Bianca Petsos (Aussie) all took home silverware. With the young talent coming through the rankings, it is a good time to be an Australian Swimming fan.

Throughout the competition, points were awarded to individuals who placed in the top eight for each event, as both Team Asia and Aussie battled it out closely. Congratulations to Team Aussie for being crowned the 2019 Asia-Pac Super Splash Champions.

With the conclusion of day two’s events, the 2019 Asia-Pac Super Splash draws to a close, bringing with it some sadness but an overall feeling of optimism as friendships have been formed throughout the Meet. The fantastic initiative would not have been possible without the continued support from the Department of Local Government Sports and Cultural Industries.

After the reinvigoration of the Asia-Pac Super Splash, you can’t help but feel excited for the future editions of this event, where once again Western Australia will welcome our Asian visitors with open arms.

We now look forward to the summer of swimming ahead, in particular, the 2019 SunSmart Western Australian State Age Swimming Championships which will see the next generation of swimming stars battle for WA State Titles on 20 – 23 December 2019. Entries for this meet close at 9 pm Monday 16 December.
