CBH Supports Swimming WA's Grass Roots

31 May 2019

Swimming WA was a recipient of the March-round of the CBH Grass Roots Fund. The CBH Grass Roots Fund is helping organisations make a difference in Western Australia's grain growing communities. CBH Group has allocated $150,000 to 46 projects and events in WA’s grain growing communities under the Grass Roots Fund.

Swimming WA was successful in securing $1,300 to support the Mid-West Swimming Region in delivering capacity building and development opportunities to Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers in and around the Geraldton area.

With regional swimming a significant strategic focus for Swimming WA in 2019. The Grass Roots funding will assist Swimming WA to deliver development programmes and coaching courses to the Geraldton area. Swimming WA intends to tailor servicing to the needs of the Geraldton community, with a focus on giving young swimmers the confidence to give racing a go.

“This is a great opportunity to expose swimmers in regional Clubs to grass roots programmes. All swimmers across the state should have the opportunity to hone their competitive swimming skills in a fun swimming environment” Swimming WA CEO, Darren Beazley said.

In conjunction with the Geraldton Short Course Classic, Swimming WA will be facilitating two clinics on Saturday, 1 June. Swimming WA mentor coaches Jon Harrison and Will Greenwood from Westside Christ Church Swimming Club will lead the clinics. Children aged eight and over are invited to participate in the Learn to Race Clinics. Learn to Race clinics are ideal for swimmers who are unsure about racing or need help with specific skills to improve their performance. The clinics will run from 9:00 am - 10:30 am.

Local physiotherapist and exercise physiologist, Todd Teakle, will support the coaching staff at the clinics by leading a dry land warm-up for each clinic. Teakle will also facilitate a discussion of athlete development and injury prevention with parents whilst the swimmers are in the water. Teakle has a great deal of experience previously having worked with the Perth Wildcats, and now works with the Mid West Academy of Sport.

Swimming WA is pleased to receive the support received by CBH to ensure the investment and survival of grass roots sports in Regional WA.
