Message from the President

27 September 2019

October will see the culmination of what has been a highly successful 2019 Short Course Season.  Our State Team will compete at the State Team Championships at the AIS in Canberra from 4 – 6 October, and we wish Head Coach Deb Jones and her team the very best of luck.

This month Western Australia will also see a WA team travel to train and compete in Malaysia from 8 to 13 October under the guidance of Rockingham’s Head Coach Brooke Kemp, and State Head Coach Leigh Nugent.  I wish the group the very best of luck and thank our partners in Malaysia for their support in this exciting component of the Asian Engagement Through Sport Strategy.

This month will also see the 2019 Hancock Prospecting Short Course Championships to be held in Victoria, and once again we’ll have a strong contingent of Western Australian swimmers heading across and we wish them all the very best.

During October, we have the all-important AGM on 12 October to be staged at AIM WA.  We’re following that with the Technical Officials Forum as well as the ascta (WA) Conference which promises to be another busy weekend of swimming in WA.

Also this month, Swimming Australia will hold their AGM on Wednesday, 23 October in Melbourne, with myself and the CEO attending.

It may be hard to believe, but the Open Water Swimming Series is upon us again with Round One on Saturday, 26 October at beautiful Coogee.  Our thanks to the City of Cockburn for their support and we look forward to kicking the season off on the right format.

I’d like to finish this message by advising our Members that based on the feedback received from a number of Clubs, the Board has recommended that there be an amendment to the 8-year-old competition rules which will be communicated by our General Manager Performance and People, Carolyn Morrison, to all Clubs during the first week in October.  Should you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Competition team who can help you with that.

October is a huge month for swimming in WA, and I look forward to seeing you on pool deck soon.

Best regards,

Louis van Aardt

President
