Rising Stars shine at Qualifying Meet #2

16 August 2020

The Western Australian Swimming community was in full force this weekend at the 2020 Swimming WA Short Course Qualifying Meet #2, with participants from Broome to Albany converging on HBF Stadium.

With just under 700 competitors in action, it has become apparent the COVID-19 Pandemic has reinvigorated the desire to swim for many athletes with an incredible amount of Personal Best times being achieved.

Many of WA’s brightest up and comers were in action with their training schedule starting to resemble their pre-pandemic form. Although most major meets have been canceled through 2020, the spirits of WA swimmers have not been dampened with stars such as Kate Harrison (Westside Christchurch, c: Jon Harrison), Caitlyn Ribbons (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Shaw), and Joshua Edwards-Smith (UWA-West Coast, c: Michael Shaw) all swimming incredibly fast.

In what would usually be the preparation for the State Teams competition, age group swimmers across WA have continued to work hard and develop their skills. With the continued support of State Head Coach, Leigh Nugent, and the incredible coaching fraternity in WA, the 2021 iteration of State Teams should be an event to look forward to.

The Meet doubled as the final chance to qualify for the upcoming 2020 Hancock Prospecting State Short Course Championships, set to be held at HBF Stadium from 3 – 5 September. Swimmers from all across the state utilizing the chance to qualify for the State’s benchmark Short Course Meet.

Swimming WA would once again like to thank our wonderful Technical Officials who work tirelessly to ensure the success of events such as this weekend. The Officiating community in Western Australia is the best in the country and without their ongoing support, Swimming WA would not be able to continue to prosper.
