Pool Deck Accreditation for Rookie Meet and Country Championships Weekend 5-7th January

We are looking forward to seeing all of our country members down in Perth for the Swimming WA Country Championships early in the new year.

To ensure that all Clubs, Coaches and Technical Officials are prepared for what is shaping up to be an incredible weekend of swimming, Swimming WA would like to notify everyone about the newly introduced changes regarding Pool Deck Access Accreditation and changes to the requirements of volunteers at these meets.

The Hancock Prospecting State Championships saw the first time Pool Deck Accreditation passes being introduced to WA competitions. This will be continued for future championship events held by Swimming WA.

The reasoning behind introducing the Pool Deck Accreditation Passes are for a number of reasons, being mainly those listed as below:

  • Need for further Child Safeguarding measures to better align with the National Child Safe Principles
  • Improved control and management of pool deck operations
  • Expanding the capability of coaches and athletes to have a safe and controlled event space at competitions
  • Recent changes to venue requirements

Volunteers (eg, timekeepers, results runners and medals etc) will receive their accreditation passes on the day from their team manager responsible for collecting the passes, who will be able to receive them from  Swimming WA staff.

This will require clubs organizing a team manager for each session and/or day per club to assist with coordinating their clubs volunteer roster. Team managers are to collect the passes for their volunteer allocation from the accreditation desk before each session and hand them back at the end of the session. Passes and clubs are marked for collection and return. This desk will be set up next to the reception desk in the foyer outside of the pool. Collection times will be communicated closer to the event.

With the introduction of the pool deck accreditation passes, there has been a new volunteer role introduced that will appear on club volunteer rosters sent out. This role encompasses standing at pass checkpoint entry points and ensuring that anyone that is not a competitor is wearing an accreditation lanyard to be granted access to pool deck. Those without accreditation lanyards will be turned away from accessing pool deck and told to speak with staff at the accreditation desk. This role is quite straightforward and will be explained in the volunteer debrief before racing each day.

If there are any questions on this process for volunteers, clubs can contact Grace Schmidt the Capability Manager at the office to discuss.

Technical Officials will be able to collect their passes (if nominated and rostered on for the event) on the day from the accreditation desk set up next to the reception desk in the foyer outside of the pool. Collection times will be communicated closer to the event.

All Coaches who will be needed on pool deck at Country Championships from the 5th - 7th January will be required to have purchased their Accreditation Pass via the event page on Swim Central by no later than Sunday the 31st of December.

All coaches will be required to wear their accreditation lanyard at all times during the competition whilst on pool deck.

Accreditation lanyards will be able to be collected from the accreditation desk next to the reception in the foyer outside of the pool at HBF stadium each day of the competition.

Forgotten, not registered or lost passes will incur a fee.

For coaches to purchase their accreditation pass, visit the event page on Swim Central and follow the steps listed in the previous email from capability@wa.swimming.org.au

**Please note having a photo of yourself in passport format (head in focus down to top of shoulders) will be required for the processing of the accreditation passes
