School Sport Australia Swimming Championships - Recap

2022 School Sports Australia Swimming Championships was held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from Monday, 15 August to Tuesday, 23 August. The 13-19's age group competition was held from Monday, 15 August to Saturday, 20 August and the 10-12 age group was held from Friday, 19 August to Tuesday, 23 August.

Olivia Boulton

Well done to our captains of the team, Archer Harrison, Eli Hickman and Brielle Dredge were the captains for the 10-12 and Hayden Ferguson and Olivia Boulton were the captains for the 13-19.

Congratulations to Olivia Boulton, who won the School Sport Australia Sportsmanship Award for the 13-19 years swimming championships. Olivia was nominated by multiple states and was a deserving winner.

A big shoutout to Brielle Dredge, who was a massive help with coaching, mentoring, and assisting with athletes on the trip.

Shayna Jack made a special appearance at Brisbane Aquatic Centre. Most of the School Sport WA athletes had the opportunity to meet and take some photos with her.

School Sport Western Australia always include a fun activity for the athletes while they are away. On this trip, the team were very lucky to spend the day at Dreamworld.

Group

Swimming WA is incredibly proud of the efforts of all swimmers with a huge amount of personal bests recorded and many swimmers making the finals.

Medal Winners

Congratulations to the following medal winners:

Kaydee

Hayden Ferguson, from Southlake Dolphins, won silver in the 17-19 400m freestyle, gold in the 13-19 boys 1500m freestyle and silver in the 13-19 boys 800m freestyle. Amazing work Hayden, bringing home three School Sport medals. 

Harrison Farmer, from Central Aquatic, won bronze in the 17-19 200m butterfly. Congratulations Harrison!

Beau Mepham, from Western Sprint, came home with a bronze medal in the 13 years 50m freestyle. Well done Beau.

Kaydee Van Deventer, from Highlanders, won bronze in the 11 years 50m butterfly. Great achievement Kaydee.

What a great opportunity for our swimmers to experience high-quality nationals and to represent their school and state in the sport they are passionate about. A special thanks to parents for travelling with the team and supporting the swimmers along the way. 

The trip could not go ahead without the team officials, who were responsible for the safety and well-being of the swimmers. Thank you to; Lorraine Feddema, Clayton Bird, Casey Rollnik, Casey Rushforth, Jonathon Silas, Ryan Porter and Matthew Nelson.
