From January 9-11th, we had 23 athletes from the Swimming WA Country Team and Country Performance Squad attend a two-day training camp following the Country Championships between January 7-9th.
The group of athletes stayed on-site at Scotch College in Perth and enjoyed unique group sessions, designed to provide new tips to the swimmers for training, racing, nutrition and recovery.
The camp included coaches from across WA, led by Shannon Doody (Scarborough Beach Swimming Club), with support from coaches Bethwyn Boatwright (Paraburdoo) and Claire MacPherson (Geraldton).
Along with learning new training exercises, the group of swimmers had the opportunity to gain invaluable tips on their diet for training and race day, along with expert advice on how to make the most of their recovery time.
The swimmers had the opportunity to hear from WAIS Performance Dietitian, Emily Eaton, and Dr Sacha Fulton from Peak Performance regarding sleep optimisation.
We want to thank these two industry experts along with all coaches involved for their support and guidance in educating our swimmers on the camp. It was incredibly successful and future camps will be available to country swimmers!
