SWA Junior Coaching and Development Backstroke Clinic.

08 February 2020

Over 30 Junior and development Coaches from all over WA (including Northam, Bunbury and Busselton) were at this morning’s Backstroke Clinic at HBF Stadium. Arranged by SWA new Athlete  and Coaching Development Manager Luke Gavin together with State Head Coach Leigh Nugent, the clinic included theory and practical sessions. Swimmers from Westside Christchurch were under the watchful eye of SWA Head Coach Leigh Nugent, whilst SWA Coaches looked on. The quality of the instruction was very evident with those in the water improving their backstroke technique over the 45 minutes session.

“Swimming WA continues to invest in our coaches to ensure that the next stop of swimmers have every chance to realise their potential. Swimming WA extends a warm welcome to Dr David Pyne and Jim Fowlie to Perth to be part of the Performance Workshop components. We are grateful that they agreed to be our guests and play a vital role in our Coaching Development Plan” said SWA CEO Darren Beazley. “I was really pleased to see Coaches from the country come in for the clinic and speaking to some, it was clear that it was worth the investment of time.”

The remainder of the weekend will include a Performance Coaching Workshop involving Dr David Pyne who will deliver a theoretical session on Understanding Energy Systems, followed by Jim Fowlie who will deliver a session on the differences in the application of training influences from Juniors to Age Groupers to Mature Swimmers.
