Swimming WA Announces Nominations Committee

The Western Australian Swimming Association Inc. (“Swimming WA” or “SWA”) is pleased to advise its Membership about a positive development in relation to its governance and leadership practices for 2020 and beyond.

Swimming WA is committed to providing contemporary, respected corporate governance and leadership. In May of this year, Swimming WA unveiled its response to the findings within the Leadership Scan Project, funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) grant and has been regularly reporting to the Membership on progress. As forecast at the July SWA Presidents Forum, the Swimming WA Nominations Committee has been formed.

The role of the Nominations Committee is to identify those skills required on the Board to enable Swimming WA to continue its strategic direction and to compare applications from candidates who wish to be considered for election or appointment as a Swimming WA Director, pursuant to the SWA Constitution. The Committee’s activities will be key to ensuring that the Board possesses a required blend of knowledge, skills, professionalism and governance experience to support Swimming WA’s strategic objectives, whilst maximising the collaboration and skills across the sport to achieve agreed common purpose, values and goals. The Nominations Committee is empowered by the Swimming WA Board to perform the activities and make recommendations in relation to the alignment between the skills of candidates for vacant Board positions and those it feels are most required to achieve the SWA Strategic Plan 2019-2024. The Board has sought volunteers who have had extensive Western Australian swimming experience either as an athlete, Technical Official or administrator. The Nominations Committee will be chaired by independent Chair Mrs Jeanette Bailey. Mrs Bailey is Swimming WA’s longest serving President and has extensive experience in Western Australian swimming including at Club level (in the Pilbara and in Perth), as an official and as an administrator.

The members of the Nominations Committee are:

• Mrs Jeanette Bailey

• Mr Jim Piper

• Mr Peter Anderson

• Mrs Helen Hull (Swimming WA Board Member)

• Mr Tommaso D’Orsogna (Swimming WA Board Member)
