Swimming WA Technical Officials headed to Tokyo.

20 December 2019

Swimming WA is pleased to share that two Swimming WA Technical Officials have been selected to represent Australia at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Mrs Jacqui McNamara of York Swimming Club and Mr Ryan Arblaster of Breakers WA Swimming Club have both been selected to officiate the swimming at the Olympics next year.

This will be Mrs McNamara’s first Olympic appointment, having represented Australia previously at Meets including the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Mrs McNamara was awarded Swimming WA’s top honour for Technical Officials when she was named the 2019 Technical Official of the Year in May. Mrs McNamara is also a Life Member of Swimming WA. Until recently, Mrs McNamara served on the Swimming WA Technical Education and Official Committee whilst also being the Regional Coordinator of the Great Southern Region.

This will be Mr Arblaster’s third Olympic appearance, having also officiated at the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. However, this will be Mr Arblaster’s first Olympic appointment as a Referee. Mr Arblaster is no stranger to the world stage, either, most recently officiating at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea and the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ryan also sits on the FINA Technical Swimming Committee as well as the Swimming Australia Technical Official Committee.

Swimming WA congratulates Mrs McNamara and Mr Arblaster on this exceptional achievement and we look forward to watching them both represent Australia with pride in Tokyo.
