We are past the halfway mark and onto night four of the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide. Joshua Yong (UWA West Coast) led off for the Western Australian athletes, racing the Men’s 200m Breaststroke, where he finished in eighth place with a time of 2:17.00. Yong’s UWA West Coast teammate Aleksandr Bell took out 15th in the B Final, bettering his morning swim with a 2:19.81.

In the Multi-Class Women’s 100m Breaststroke, Tegan Reder (UWA West Coast) finished in fourth place with a 1:33.85. A strong swim for Reder, who was the second youngest athlete in the field.

In one of the highlights of the night, Brianna Throssell (UWA West Coast) took out the Women’s 200m Butterfly with a 2:07.63, securing her ticket to her second Olympics in Tokyo. Throssell battled it out with Elizabeth Dekkers for the entire race, but ultimately got over the top of her competitors in the final lap. Eliza Hodder (Scarborough Beach) finished 15th in the B Final, an amazing effort for the youngster.

Securing yet another Paralympic qualifying time for Tokyo, Ben Popham (Arena) swam a 57.37 in the Multi-Class Men’s 100m Freestyle and finished in second place. In doing so, Popham also broke the Australian Open Record for the S8 classification, a tremendous achievement for the 20-year old. Alex Saffy (Bunbury) placed 14th in the B Final with a 57.30.

In the Men’s 100m Freestyle, Zac Incerti (UWA West Coast) finished in fourth place, with a 48.51. This will likely see Incerti swimming in the 4x100m relay in Tokyo. In the B Final, Ashton Brinkworth clocked a 49.60 to finish 11th.

Stay tuned for the latest news from the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials as we bring all the action over the coming days from Adelaide.
