Trio of West Aussies named to Olympic Team

The sixth and final night of the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials was led off by Iona Anderson (Breakers) in the B Final of the Women’s 200m Backstroke. Anderson finished in 11th place with a time of 2:15.72, notably being the youngest competitor in the field.

 

In the Men’s 100m Butterfly, Nicholas Brown (UWA West Coast) finished fifth, improving on his heat time with a 52.27. Jackson Govers (St Hilda’s) finished 14th in the B Final, touching the wall in 53.96.

 

Holly Barratt (Rockingham) finished sixth in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, stopping the clock in a time of 24.61. In the Men’s 50m Freestyle, Ashton Brinkworth (UWA West Coast) finished fourth, with a personal best time of 22.23.

 

In the final race of the competition, the Men’s 1500m Freestyle, Adam Sudlow (UWA West Coast) finished in seventh place clocking a time of 15:33.40.

 

To wrap up a huge week of racing, the 2021 Australian Olympic Team for Tokyo was announced, where a trio of UWA West Coast swimmers; Tamsin Cook, Brianna Throssell, and Zac Incerti collected their tickets to Tokyo and are officially off to compete at the Olympic Games in July.

 

In addition to this, Alex Saffy (Bunbury) has been given a provisional spot on the Australian team for the Paralympic Games. A huge achievement for the 15-year-old who had a huge program at the Australian Trials.
