WA’s distance swimmers dive into action on day 3 of Trials

16 June 2023

As the World Championship Trials enter the third day, the spotlight turned towards the races of our distance swimmers in the gruelling 800m freestyle event. Let’s jump into the highlights!

Kieran Pollard (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) delivered an impressive performance, clocking in at just under the eight-minute mark with a time of 7:59.02. Not far behind, Kyle Lee (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) secured a fifth place finish with a time of 8:00.32. Jack Wilson (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) and Alec Mander (Perth City, c: Eoin Carroll) also put forth solid swims, finishing in ninth and tenth place, respectively. These performances serve as valuable preparation for Lee and Wilson, who will be heading to the Open Water Worlds next month.

Among the other WA competitors in the 800m freestyle event there were Robert Bonsall (13th), Adam Sudlow (14th) and Alessio Macri (15th).

Alex Saffy S10 (Bunbury/AIS) continued to make waves as he competed in the 50m freestyle multi-class, claiming fifth place. Jordan Berryman S8 (UWA West Coast, c: Brett Tongue) took to the pool in the highly competitive 50m freestyle multi-class.

Looking ahead, tonight’s finals promise to be thrilling as our very own Iona Anderson takes on the 200m backstroke and Talara-Jade Dixon secured her spot in the 50m breaststroke. Both Anderson and Dixon currently hold a second place ranking, making them strong contenders to watch. Kieran Pollard is currently ranked eighth leading into the 200IM final and Ashton Brinkworth secured his spot in the 100m freestyle B final. It all kicks off tonight on 9Now.
