West Aussies Impress at French Nationals

29 May 2019

Gaining fantastic international race experience in France across the weekend, two of Western Australia’s emerging open water swimmers competed in multiple events at the French Nationals with fellow Australian Junior Development Open Water Squad members.

Taking place at the picturesque Lac du Causse in Brive, Perth City swimmers Chloe Green and Reilly Kennedy battled it out first in the 10km race – which was a LEN cup race.

In chilly conditions, Kennedy swam strongly to place 16th overall with a time of 1:55:45.66, and was the second male to finish in the 18-19-year age group.

In the corresponding event for the women, Chloe Green finished in a time of 2:08:11.66 to claim 28th position while also recording the 7th fastest time in the 16-17-year age group.

In the second event of the meet – the 4x1.25km mixed relay – the Aussie Junior Development Team put in a tremendous performance to finish 5th, falling just short of three French teams and the Canadian contingent.

One the final day of the competition there were 168 starters in the Men’s 5km race, with Kennedy placing 21stoverall (third in the 18-19-year age bracket).

Lending support and guidance at the competition was Perth City head coach Matt Magee.

Well done to both swimmers and coach!
