WestSwim Celebrates its First Graduation

02 August 2019

Swimming WA is proud to celebrate that WestSwim Lakelands have begun successfully transitioning swimmers into local Clubs in their area, with their first graduate starting with Peel Aquatic Club in July. WestSwim Lakelands opened in May 2018, recently celebrating its first year.

Ruby joined WestSwim Lakelands’ Endurance Programme in January this year. After attending a Club Night hosted by Peel in early July, to which WestSwim Endurance swimmers were invited, Ruby decided it was time to make the jump to a Club environment to continue her swimming development.

WestSwim Lakelands Coordinator, Alicia Coppin, said the staff were very proud of Ruby’s success. “Ruby joined our Endurance Squad in January this year. As a result of her hard work and training, and continued support of her WestSwim coaches, she was invited to attend a swim meet night hosted by Peel Aquatic Swimming Club. We wish her every success in her swimming and look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with Peel and other local swim Clubs in the area.

The graduation has been the direct result of strengthening relationships between WestSwim and local Clubs, including Peel Aquatic Club, Mandurah Swimming Club, Pinjarra Swimming Club and Rockingham Swimming Club. Clubs have benefited by receiving a base of well-trained swimmers who are prepared to enter a Club swimming environment. Our swimmers then benefit through a clear pathway following their acquisition of the fundamental competitive strokes and skills.
