Swimming WA Technical Officials - Setting the Standard!
The role of the Technical Official is fundamental to swimming, no matter where you swim in this vast State. Swimming WA is fortunate to have officials that are FINA accredited and have experience at state, national and international level. These dedicated volunteers donate their time week in, week out, to ensure that their Club and the swimmers have the opportunity to reach that all-important official time.
Swimming WA works with the TEO Committee each year to provide professional development opportunities and accreditation courses throughout the year. As every Swimming WA Club must have at least one Technical Official, we are always looking for volunteers who want to 'set the standard'.
There are a variety of roles that TO's can be involved in as part of a swim meet.
Technical Official roles include:
- Check Starter
- Clerk of Course (Marshal)
- Inspector of Turns
- Judge of Stroke
- AOE Operator
- Meet Manager Operator
- Starter
- Referee
Testimonials
"I began my journey as a Technical Official wanting to help my club out at first; however, over a short period of time, I realised how great it was to see fabulous swimming up close and to be learning a new set of skills, meeting like minded people and enjoying myself. I love being a TO because not only am I giving back to my club, but I have been fortunate enough to travel regionally, interstate and internationally and sharing my experiences with others, through training sessions or just around the pool deck or on a beach. Highly recommend it." - Kylie Baker (2024).
"I love officiating because I like to be helpful and love being a part of the competition. With the present of official, the club night will be more formal and the children can experience the formal of the comp to prepare them for the bigger comps. Becoming an official will be rewarding because you can help, you can see the swimmers at the close distance and you get to travel a lot too." - Quyen Nguyen (2024)
