14 March 2020

The 2020 Westpac Summer League concluded today, Saturday 14 March 2020 with the final event of Round 3 being hosted by Riverton Aquanauts and Thornlie Districts Swimming Club. In what was a fantastic round of swimming, there were multiple highlights across 3 events as the WA Swimming community enjoyed the Westpac Summer League for the final time this season.

Round 3 started on Saturday, 7 March as Guildford Kalamunda hosted the Central Zone with Southside Penrhos aiming to hold their series lead over the hosts. With the vital points on the line, Guildford Kalamunda entered a formidable team and jumped out to a big lead early. The host’s used their hometown advantage and went from strength to strength allowing a comfortable round win.

Following the fantastic start of Round 3, the North Zone was in action on Sunday, 8 March at Terry Tyzack. With over 50 competitors representing 5 clubs, swimmers were treated to an incredible twilight meet as the magnificent David Todd directed the Meet into the evening. Home-town hero’s and Meet hosts Riverside was once again too strong for the visiting clubs and dominated the evening of competition.

Swimmers were also treated to a showcase by Swimming WA Ambassador, Joshua Hofer OAM (Perth City) as he represented his club in the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle, competing valiantly against some stiff competition.

The final event of Round 3 was held at Riverton Leisureplex with great support from southern clubs. The event was co-hosted by Riverton and Thornlie as to the two clubs went to battle in the pool, in an effort to close the gap on current series leader Rockingham. With a strong team entered from Riverton, Thornlie and Rockingham spectators were treated to an enthralling battle throughout the Meet.

Riverton was too powerful with some incredible performances from their youngsters holding off a strong effort from Thornlie.

With the conclusion of Round 3, the 2020 Westpac Summer League draws to close after a fantastic season of racing. With almost every club in Perth competing in a range of events and many swimmers ranging in ability taking to the water there was no better place to enjoy your summer than enjoying the Westpac Summer League.
