As we break the back of the winter months, we look ahead to the coming Summer season. It wouldn’t be an Australian Summer without hot sand, cool ocean water and Australia’s biggest Open Water Swimming Series.
That’s right, Swimming WA’s OWS Series Calendar is here and we are excited to announce some new changes to the lineup.
- This Summer the State Open Water Championships has moved away from the waters of Champion Lakes to the Rockingham Foreshore. Expect this Round to be a huge smash with the Club Premiership Cup being contested on the day as well. Be sure to support your Club and their Swimmers by joining us in Rockingham on the 23 November 2019.
- Mandurah has returned to the Series and will be the host of our new team swim event. Team up with your two best mates and take on the 1.25km course together. The timer doesn't stop until all team members cross the line.
- New to this season will be our Splash & Dash event for our youngest swimmers aged 8 – 11. This event will be held at Town Beach (Mandurah), Koombana Bay, Sorrento and Shorehaven.
- Chaperone rules have changed to enable more families to swim together:
"Swimmers under the age of 10 must have a suitably experienced chaperone swimmer who is a minimum of 16 years of age" - After the huge success of last year’s Diamond Mile, which raised over $5,000 for the Swimming WA Foundation, the event has been scheduled to return in 2020. Thank you to the Shire of Harvey for supporting the event this year and bringing it to the protected freshwater of the beautiful Harvey Dam.
Registrations for the 2019/20 OWS Series will open on 15 August so be sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram and watch our website to ensure you don’t miss a beat and come swim with us this Summer.
