Volunteer of the Month - April

06 May 2019

Trevor Verran has been a member of Guildford Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club since 2008 when his sons commenced swimming with the Club.

In 2011 Trevor started on the Committee of GKDSC (known as Kalamunda Districts SC back then) as the meet recorder, which involved the running of the meets and taking entries from Club members. In 2012 Trevor took on the additional role of Registrar whilst still performing Meet Recorder duties. Not long after Trevor oversaw the purchasing of the Dolphin Timing System, which was a significant acquisition for the Club.

In 2014 Trevor was appointed as Vice President and held this role until 2017 when he was elected as President of the Club in 2017, a role he currently holds and performs honourably.

In 2011 after finding long days at swim Meets a little tedious Trevor started volunteering as a Technical Official, a role he enjoys immensely still to this day. He has officiated at many Swimming WA, Club sanctioning, Country Meets and Australian Age Nationals. Trevor is also serving a term on the Swimming WA Technical Education Officials Committee.

At the Club, Trevor continues to lead by example in his role as President. He consistently supports other Committee members in their roles, he runs and officiates at the Clubs Meets and also trains new Technical Officials. He oversees the maintenance of the Club website, Facebook page plus other Club IT, and is always on hand to fix a broken lane rope, put up signs, deliver flyers, build Learn to Swim platforms and apply for much-needed grants assistance.

Recently Trevor has overseen the development of the “GK Masters” Club and the new “DR Swim” Learn to Swim, which has extended the clubs range of swimmers from four years right up to 50 and beyond.

GKDSC Committee Member, Paul Naylor describes Trevor’s passion for swimming as, “Amazing and GK is a better Club for having Trevor around”.

“Trevor has a very approachable demeanour, with a friendly smile, has never ending patience and always has time for everyone.” said Mr. Naylor

“During his children’s primary school years Trevor consistently volunteered as a school swim coach and chief official/starter at their swimming carnivals. Over the past 6 years Trevor has been involved with assisting several local high schools and primary schools with the running of their swimming carnivals, as a GK club representative” he said.
