WA Athletes Selected for MLC Duel in the Pool

25 June 2021

Swimming Australia has unveiled the athletes selected for the Australian Junior Team (pool and open water) and the Australian Universiade Team following the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide.

Athletes selected in the teams will have the opportunity to race at the MLC Duel in the Pool, to be held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from 18-21 August 2021. The two teams will go head-to head in the pool, whilst the open water team will race at Tallebudgera Creek on 22 August on the Gold Coast.

Joshua Edwards-Smith (UWA West Coast) will be Western Australia’s sole representative on the Australian Junior (pool) Team. Edwards-Smith's selection on the squad comes after a strong showing at the Australian Swimming Trials, notably finishing fifth in the Men’s 200m Backstroke.

Kieren Pollard (North Coast) and Joshua Yong (UWA West Coast) have been named to the Australian Universiade Team. Pollard was a triple finalist at the recent Australian Trials, putting up strong swims in the Men’s Individual Medley events. Yong was a dual finalist in the Men’s Breaststroke events. Will Scott (WAIS) has been named as the Head Coach of the Australian Universiade Team.

Kyle Lee (North Coast) has been selected on the Australian Junior Open Water team after finishing first in the Boys 19 years 10km Open Water event at the 2021 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships in March.

Congratulations to the WA athletes and best of luck in Queensland in August.
