Neck and neck in Bunbury: Kyle Lee and Jack Wilson’s close finish

08 November 2023

On Saturday in Bunbury, Western Australia, the shores of Koombana Bay witnessed over 350 swimmers. Hosted by the City of Bunbury, this event showcased the 5km State Championships.

In the men's category, the 5km race turned into a nail-biting duel between Australian Dolphin swimmers Kyle Lee (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) and Jack Wilson (North Coast, c: Ian Mills). Lee managed to clinch victory just ahead of Wilson, with less than a second separating their times. Robert Bonsall (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) claimed the third position. The swimming community eagerly await the performance of these three athletes at the upcoming worlds qualifier scheduled to be held in Funchal, Portugal, in December 2-3.

In the female category, Bianca Monaco (Westside Christchurch, c: Jon Harrison) secured the top spot in the girls' 5km State Championships, finishing just over the one-hour mark. Rosie Wilson (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) claimed second place, while Eleanor Flowers (North Coast, c: Rowan Brown) finished in third position.
