Team WA takes on New Zealand at Tri-Series Meet

22 September 2023

Twenty-two of the Western Australian swimming community will represent WA in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, at the New Zealand Tri-Series Meet from September 27-29.

This event will see fifteen athletes from the WA Performance Pathway Program, who will go head-to-head against teams from New Zealand and Victoria. The stakes are high as they compete for individual and team glory in the pool.

The coaching staff for this elite group of swimmers went through an extensive application process. They will proudly wear the black and gold as they guide and support the WA team in New Zealand. The coaching team includes:

  • Lead Coach: Brooke Kemp (WAIS)
  • Assistant Coach: Jon Harrison (Westside Christchurch Aquatic)
  • Assistant Coach: Zoe Baker (Peel Aquatic)
  • Apprentice Coach: Thurston Hewitt (Highlanders)

In addition to the athletes and coaches, WA will be represented by Mhairi Doherty (UWA West Coast) and Maricel Van de Nadort (Central Aquatic) as Technical Officials at the competition.

The format of the competition is similar to the International Swimming League (ISL) and State Team Championships. Swimmers will accumulate points for their team, striving to be crowned Tri-Series Champions. This thrilling event not only showcases top-tier swimming talent but also provides valuable opportunities for coaches and athletes to connect, including combined training sessions, coach development programs, and team-building activities. Best of luck to all!
