Westpac Volunteer of the Month.

03 February 2020

Swimming WA is pleased to announce that the Westpac Volunteer of the Month for January is Steven Douglas of Northam Swimming Club.

With over 10 years of involvement in Club, Steven Douglas is an active, current and Life Member of the Northam Swimming Club.  Previously holding the Club positions of Vice President and Events/Competition Coordinator, Steve is currently the Head Coach for Northam Swimming Club and Coordinator for SWA’s Wheatbelt Region – and that’s just what he does in his ‘spare time’.  Steve is also a volunteer ambulance driver recently being awarded the St John WA’s 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award.

When he’s not forming plans to beat the ‘Where’s Wally’ crew at Country Pennants Team March past, he can generally be found on pool deck encouraging swimmers to improve their stroke and build their stamina. Steve works with our Dolphins and Sharks squads, jumping in to assist with Squids and Orca’s whenever the need arises.

Steve is a great contributor to the general running of the Club, through input at committee meetings (where you can be assured a jovial chuckle is just around the corner) and the Country Pennants logistics team.  He is never far away from an offer to help with fundraising, always making sure club equipment is up and working – and if the Club doesn’t have it, that’s ok, Steve will find one!!

Thank you, and congratulations, Steve!

Steven Douglas was awarded with a SWA prize and now goes into the running for the SWA Volunteer of the Year, which is announced in May at the 2019 Swimmer of the Year Awards.

The SWA Volunteer of the Year will receive return flights, accommodation and tickets for two (2) people to attend the Swimming Australia Gala Dinner (date and venue TBC).

SWA will be accepting nominations for the Volunteer of the Month until 30th April.
