Double gold glory: Sudlow's incredible achievements at the Sydney Sprints

20 September 2023

Last week, Adam Sudlow (North Coast, c: Ian Mills) and Ethan Buckland (Westside Christ Church, c: Jon Harrison) travelled over to Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) to compete at the Australian Short Course Championships from September 13-16. These athletes represented their home clubs at a national event and came home with some great results.

Adam Sudlow took on the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events. The crowning glory of Sudlow’s performance was his gold medal win in the 800m freestyle, where he clocked a time of 7:56.25. His strong racing continued as he claimed the top spot in the 1500m freestyle, finishing with a time of 15:21.88.

Ethan Buckland competed in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke. His strong performances earned him a well-deserving spot in the finals. Competing against some of Australia’s top swimmers would’ve been undoubtedly a defining experience for Buckland.

Behind every successful competition, there are individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. We extend a big thank you and congratulations to WA’s representative Technical Officials who played crucial roles at the Australian Short Course Championships. Mhairi Doherty (UWA West Coast), Dot Harris (Corrigin), Deb Doody (Riverton), Neil Doherty (Canning Districts), Taleisha Hurford (South Shore) and Nick Short (Geraldton), well done for officiating this national event.

Sudlow and Buckland’s achievements in Sydney have made WA very proud and we are excited to see what lies ahead for these two talented athletes.
