Mullaloo hosts final OWS event for 2023!

30 December 2023

Over 700 swimmers gathered at Mullaloo Beach for Round 5 of the Open Water Swimming (OWS) Series. Proudly presented by the City of Joondalup, the event provided swimmers with the opportunity to secure their positions for next month’s Championships.

Daisy Kammermann (Riverton Aquanauts) stole the show, dominating the 500m race and securing the overall win. Following closely were Amelia Mcivor (Southlake Dolphins) and Josh Morrison (Central Aquatic). In the 1.25km event, Jesse Whyte (Breakers) emerged as the frontrunner, leaving Callum Lauriston and top female swimmer Tahlia Croome (North Coast) in his wake.

The 2.5km event witnessed Finn Wright's (Busselton) triumphant finish, earning him the top male position, while Indi Bueddemann (Breakers) claimed the female counterpart. City of Perth’s Max Coten owned the 5km race, crossing the finish line at an impressive 1:01:29, outpacing Westside Christchurch boys who rallied in support of their teammate, Tom Hay who successfully reached the national time. Mikayla Messer claimed the top female spot.

Westside Christchurch’s Bianca Monaco asserted her dominance in the gruelling 7.5km event, clocking an impressive 1:40:06.7. Central Aquatic’s James Bell emerged as the top male swimmer. In the 10km race, Callum Greenshields (City of Perth) raced to victory with a time of 2:13:01.3, while Rockingham’s Sofie Frichot claimed the top female position.

The collaborative efforts of Wase Timing, RD Events, HMP, Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club, and Central Aquatic Swimming & Lifesaving Club were recognised for their invaluable contributions. A heartfelt thank you was extended to the dedicated volunteers, particularly the Technical Officials, for ensuring the seamless execution of the competition.
